How does cupping therapy work?
Cupping therapy involves drawing the skin upwards through suction within a silicon pod. This creates a vacuum effect which then draws new blood to the area promoting diffusion and osmosis. The sensation of cupping also has an effect on the nervous system, providing sensory stimulus which can reduce pain and improve proprioception.
What side effects can occur from cupping therapy?
A common question with regards to cupping therapy is what is the cause of the circular bruises that appear after cupping therapy. This is a result from the release of blood under the skin, causing a change in colour. These can often remain for a few days or slightly longer after receiving cupping therapy. Other potential side effects can include dizziness and feeling light headed.
