AS Sports Therapy is a specialist in sports injuries, and provides assessment and effective treatments for musculoskeletal conditions. If you have suffered a sports injury and want to get back to peak performance then we can help and work with you so you can get back to playing the sport you love.

What causes sports injuries?

Sports injuries can be caused by several reasons, including:

  • Not warming up before exercise

  • Training too hard or too frequently

  • Falling or encountering a heavy blow

  • Wrong technique

  • Using equipment incorrectly

Encountering a sports injury can be frustrating, especially when you just want to get back to playing the sport you love right away. Unfortunately regardless of what type of injury you have, it's going to affect your ability to get back to playing. Even if you put it off, it may have further consequences to your ability later on.

A lot of injuries that are mainly minor, such as a sprain or strain can usually be treated at home initially. This can be done using the PRICE technique.

What does PRICE stand for, and how can it help me?

Prince stands for protection, rest, ice, compression and elevation.

Protection: When you've picked up an injury you first need to protect it. Use some sort of support to help prevent any further injury.

Rest: You need to stop any activity and rest the injured muscle or joint.

Ice: After an injury, it can help to apply ice or ice packs to the injured area. Do this for 15 minutes every 2-3 hours.

Compression: During the day use a bandage or compression sock to limit movement and swelling.

Elevation: Whenever possible, keep the injured area raised, this can help further swelling.

Depending on severity of your injury, they can't always be treated at home and will sometimes require treatment from a specialist. AS Sports Therapy is a sports injury clinic in Hertfordshire and we've encountered various injuries as a result of playing different sports, and gone onto treat many clients bringing them back to their best.

At our sports injury clinic in Hertfordshire, we are able to give a detailed diagnosis of your injury followed by a treatment/rehabilitation plan. This can include various exercises and sports massage treatments, helping you get back to playing your favourite sport as soon as possible.
